Michael Reibel opens Exhibit, Crabbin' Along the Georgia Coast

Award winning oil artist, Michael Reibel opens his solo exhibit April 3 at the Old Jail Art Center in Darien. The body of the work that will be displayed is inspired by a local crabber, McIntosh County's own Michael Vernon.

While Reibel is a Kentucky resident, over the past several years he has spent countless hours on the water and in the marsh with the Miller family of Shellman Bluff. Last summer he came to the area to specifically shadow our crabbers and their work. He made early morning trips behind Michael Vernon's boat, Dirty Deeds II, shooting over a thousand reference photos to fully explore and research his topic. With his paintings of life on the Julienton River in McIntosh County, Reibel has captured the solitude, hard work and beauty of the crabber's daily journey throughout our scenic waterways.

This featured exhibit, Crabbin' Along the Georgia Coast, will be on display and paintings for sale through the end of June. The McIntosh Old Jail Art Center is free to visit and open every Tuesday through Saturday 10 a.m.-4 p.m. and is on Highway 17 in downtown Darien.
