’Canes bite Middle Ga. Pit Bulls, 55-6

The Hinesville Hurricanes are sitting at 3-0 in the regular season after taking a bite out of the Middle Georgia Pit Bulls Saturday at home, winning 55-6.

The ‘Canes started with an offensive driving all the way to the half hatch mark before the Pit Bulls stopped the scoring attempt.

The ‘Canes defense stopped the Pit Bulls’ first drive by shutting down the running game.

The ‘Canes started their second offensive drive on the 12-yard line and Tracey Lewis took the ball in for a touchdown. Quincy Thomas converted the 2-point run for a 8-0 lead.

In the second quarter, ‘Canes quarterback Frank Troup hit Kentarius Carlisle with a 15-yard pass, getting inside the 15-yard line. Kendrick Badger picked up 10 yards on the next run and Carlisle took it into the end zone on the next. The ‘Canes missed the extra point, but were up 14-0.

‘Canes kicker Ed Smith made an onside kick and the ball was recovered by Charles Crossly. Troup tossed one at Carlisle, but a Pit Bull intercepted.

But the Pit Bulls had no offense against the hard-hitting ‘Canes defense. And they were forced to punt and the ‘Canes got great field position after a 30-yard return by Ronald Truell.

The return set up another run by Cedric Lovejoy and a touchdown run by Thomas. On the 2-point try, Troup faked a hand off to Donta Pray who paid the price with a hit, while Troup hammered his way to the end zone to go up 22-0.

On another ‘Canes offensive drive, Troup connected to Carlisle again to inside the Pit Bull 20. Badger took the handoff for the next touchdown. Troup converted another 2-point try.

The Pit Bull special team tried to give the offense a chance to score by returning the kick to mid-field.

The ‘Canes defense once again forced the punt and the offense took the field with seconds before the half.

Troup found Carlisle deep for a 35-yard touchdown pass and Smith kicked the extra point to close the half with the ‘Canes leading 37-0.

The ‘Canes defense continued to hold strong giving up only one touchdown to the Pit Bulls. The ‘Canes offense racked up more scores in the second half giving the squad its third regular season victory.

The Hurricanes hit the road this Saturday as they prepare to battle the South Carolina Flying Raiders in Columbia, S.C.
