Waldo Pafford students recently participated in Young Writers of America, an educator-run organization sponsored by Boys and Girls Clubs.
They hand wrote and proofread poems in class, then typed them according to the contest specifications. Dannye Morris let the students use the computer lab to finalize their poems, which was a key component of the contest.
Of the 24 students from Kesha Lee’s fifth-grade class who enered, 11 were chosen for publication. Less that 20 percent of entries were chosen out of thousands of submissions in the Southern Region, Division II. These students’ poems were published, “Award-Winning Young Writers of America.”
