Poole’s Deli owner Susan McCorkle and her father, Billy Poole, started working together in the building that now houses the restaurant when it was the family’s grocery store in 1972. By 1991, they sold a portion of the building and used the other side to fulfill their dream of opening an eatery.
McCorkle said her father retired four years ago, but she enjoys running the place and serving her patrons tasty comfort foods.
When McCorkle is finished at work, she often ventures out for other tempting foods to delight her taste buds. Here, she shares her five favorite area eateries.
• McCorkle said her choice for Mexican food is El Cazador.
• If it’s sushi she craves,
McCorkle heads the Sushi House in Hinesville.
• When she wants to mix tasty tidbits with good music, the restaurant owner grabs a table at Jazz’d, a tapas bar in Savannah.
• Garabaldi’s satisfies McCorkle’s taste for Italian food.
• For tasty seafood and steaks, McCorkle likes Boar’s Head Grill and Tavern on River Street.
