The Beach Bulldogs were fueled Tuesday by the memory of a 58-48 loss to the Bradwell Tigers on Jan. 12 in Hinesville. This time, the ’Dogs fought to protect their home court and their determination paid off with a 45-36 win over Bradwell. In a tight first half, the teams kept it close, but Beach pounded the boards in the second half to avenge last month’s defeat.
"I don’t know if they were complacent because we beat them last time at our place or Beach High wanted it more," Tiger basketball coach Pete Woodard said. "I’m not taking anything away from Beach. I’m giving them all the credit because they have been playing some pretty good basketball as of late."
The Bulldogs held a 1-point lead at the close of the first, even though Tiger Chris Simpson hit two shots from the 3-point line to rally his squad.
Bulldog Herbert Biggins steadily fed the bucket, hitting 22 points in the game to extend the Bulldogs’ lead by 10 in the third.Simpson did his best to pull the Tigers back into the match, sinking three more trey shots, but turnovers and rebounds favored the Bulldogs.
"Same old story — they beat us on the boards," Woodard said. "The guys started the game very sluggish and nonchalant and seemed to have no intensity.
"That says it all," he said of tonight’s game. "If that doesn’t motivate them, I don’t know what will."
Tonight, the Tigers host Windsor Forest for a senior night game. The girls’ tip off at 6:30 and the boys game will follow.
