Two Fort Stewart brigades partnered with schools in Ludowici last week to enhance relations between the post and Long County students.
Long County High School Principal Scotty Hattaway said the 1st Brigade joined forces with his school to help students develop leadership skills.
The soldiers are creating a team-work obstacle course and a leadership course at the school, Hattaway said.
 “Anytime that we can get some help steering our students in the right direction, we will certainly take advantage of it … this relationship with the 1st Brigade will definitely help us with those efforts,” the principal said.
The 3rd Brigade partnered with Smiley Elementary School, and counselor Amy Rogers said the soldiers helped recently by working the school’s open house. The troops also will promote literacy in classrooms.
School system Federal Programs Director Kathy Simmons said that of the district’s 2,758 students, 411 are directly linked to active duty personnel at Fort Stewart and 677 students have family members linked to the base.
