Global missionary Johanna Long is visiting First Baptist Church in Hinesville this weekend and she said she’s excited to share stories of her international adventures and work with the children of Central Africa.
Long, the granddaughter of longtime Hinesville resident LaFern Long, talked Sunday about her personal experiences and shared photos and mementos from her travels. The missionary worked to educate children between the ages of 10-17 in the inner regions of Zambia, Malawi, Kenya and Mozambique, in the sub-Saharan region of Africa.
Long is a graduate of the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Texas. She has spent the years since her graduation homeschooling and working with children to teach them basic subjects, the Bible and English literature. She said she uses Biblical teachings to help young people develop personal values and understand the importance of HIV/AIDS awareness, which is a topic of concern in Central Africa.  Long will take another mission trip to the Philippines in September.
