April 15: Theft by taking – felony -The owner of a landscaping and nursery business said his business office had not been open since Thanksgiving 2012. He said he went to the office to prepare for the upcoming busy season and found that during the time his business was closed someone took his trencher and a 100 pound bucket of scrap metals he had enclosed within the fenced area.

April 12: Simple battery/stalking/aggressive driving - A woman was arrested and taken to jail when deputies found a machete, sword and a handgun that were used to threaten her husband, in the woman's vehicle after she repeatedly followed and rammed her car into his on Highway 144 in Fort Stewart.

House fire displaces family

The Gum Branch home of a Fort Stewart soldier and his family was heavily damaged Thursday night by fire. The family and their pets made it out OK but lost most of their belongings.

March 30: DUI, canceled registration, suspended license - A Midway man was arrested around 10:15 p.m. for DUI, driving on a suspended license and having canceled registration near Gen. Stewart Way and Oglethorpe Highway. The man reportedly blew a .083 and .085. He was processed, given a court date and released to the Liberty County Jail.

April 1: Obstructing or hindering law enforcement officers - A Savannah man and California man were arrested in Walthourville at Dunlevie Road and Barnard Pray Road after a traffic stop. Deputies discovered the California man had a warrant out for his arrest. As the deputy waited for backup, he noticed that passengers in the vehicle were acting suspicious. Funeral set for wreck victim

A Midway man died Saturday in a motorcycle wreck near the Bryan/Chatham county line. George Wesley Thomas, 38, of Carlyene Drive on the Isle of Wight, died from injuries sustained after he lost control of his bike around 2 p.m. on Chief of Love Road, according to a release from the Savannah-Chatham Metropolitan Police.

Four promoted in sheriff's office

During a brief ceremony Wednesday at the Justice Center, Liberty County Deputy Gary Eason was promoted to sergeant; Deputy Scott Stevens was promoted to corporal; Arlene Brown was promoted to sergeant; and Bruce Duncan, the current jail administrator, was promoted to major. LCSO Sheriff Steve Sikes and Chief Deputy Jon Long led the ceremony.

March 25: Harassing phone calls - A man claimed his wife, who he is separated from, had been sending him harassing texts messages and threatening to keep their kids from him. The man said he asked her repeatedly to stop, but she ignored him. The responding deputy advised the complainant to save the conversation on his phone and provided him with a case number.

March 25: Burglary, forced entry - A woman reported that someone broke into her Hinesville residence. The responding officer said the front door had been forced open and dirt had been left on the lower portion of the door from a shoe print. Items were missing from the living room and other parts of the home appeared to have been rummaged through. Further investigation was forwarded to detectives.

Wreck ties up Hwy. 84 traffic

The Courier has received reports of a head-on collision Wednesday afternoon on Oglethorpe Highway near Kacey Drive in Hinesville. Traffic is being rerouted for the time being. The Courier will provide more information on this incident as details become available.

April 16: Simple battery/family violence/criminal trespass - A woman said her live-in boyfriend pushed and shoved her during a heated argument inside their Victory Manor Mobile Home residence. She said she called 911 so her boyfriend left the house but not before punching the wall and leaving a big hole in the wall. She refused medical treatment.
