Minimum wage goes up Thursday
WASHINGTON -- About 2 million Americans get a raise Thursday as the federal minimum wage rises 70 cents. The bad news: Higher gas and food prices are swallowing it up, and some small businesses will pass the cost of the wage hike to consumers.

Georgia's initial unemployment insurance claims down in May, up for year
ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor announced today that 44,711 laid-off workers filed first-time claims for unemployment insurance benefits in May, down 13.4 percent from April. Most of the decline in claims came in manufacturing industries.
Labor department to televise 14th annual job fair
ATLANTA - The Georgia Department of Labor's 14th annual televised job fair will be carried statewide on Georgia Public Broadcasting from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, June 22. The live broadcast, entitled Job Fair 2008, will originate from Atlanta, Albany and Toccoa. The broadcast will be simulcast over WALB-TV channel 10 in Albany and WNEG-TV channel 32 in Toccoa.
